Selecting Objects:
Selecting objects can be done in a variety of ways. The Selection
Tools are
located in the Toolbar:

The standard Select Tool
works by either clicking on the object you wish to select, or by drawing a
selection region around an area containing objects by clicking and dragging.
The Selection Region Tool
is used to determine the shape of the region used. As mentioned in Lecture 1,
the Selection Region Tool is expandable, offering the following options:
| Rectangular Selection Region |
 |
| Circular Selection Region |
 |
| Fence Selection Region |
 |
The Rectangular and Circular options are fairly self
explanatory, but I'll briefly explain the Fence Region.
The Fence Region allows you to draw a segmented line around a
region. The best way to understand what I mean is to try it:
Choose the Select Tool and set your
Selection Region to Fence.
-
Click and drag in a viewport to create the first line.
-
Let go of the mouse button and drag to create the
second line.
-
Click and let go to end the second line and start the third.
-
Drag to create the third line.
-
Continue creating lines until the area you want to select is
surrounded, then double click to complete the selection.
