Adding Materials and Rendering:

  • With your vase selected, click on the Material Editor icon, located in the top right of the screen:

  • This brings up the Material Editor:

  • Click on Get Material:

  • This brings up the Material/Map Browser:

  • Under Browse From, Select the Mtl Library (Material Library) radio button.

  • This brings up a list of preset materials. In order to see what they look like, click the View List + Icons button:

  • At the moment, we are only interested in Materials, and not Maps, so de-select the Maps check-box under Show

  • Click once on any of the Materials to see it displayed in the larger window in the top left of the Material/Map Browser.

  • You can choose your own Material if you like, but it probably wont come out as you expect as we haven't given our vase Mapping Co-ordinates (discussed later). I suggest you choose either Metal_Chrome or Metal_Dark_Gold, as these will not require Mapping Co-ordinates.  You can now close the Material/Map Browser by clicking close in it's top right corner.

  • In the Material Editor, click Assign to Selection:

  • This assigns the material we just selected to our vase.

  • Close the Material Editor by clicking close in it's top right corner.

Now our vase is finished, we need to Render it. So, frame your vase nicely in the Perspective viewport, make sure the Perspective viewport is selected, and click Quick Render:

You should have something pretty like this......

You may notice that the edges are not smooth. Go back to the Modify Panel and change the amount of Segments to 60.

Try another Render.....

Thats Better!

Right that's enough for one day!
